On the way back from Amanohashidate, one of the Three Most Scenic Spots of Japan, we visited Motoise Naiku Kotaijinja Shrine, located deep in the mountains of Kyoto. It was only after we arrived that we discovered that this was the site before the current Ise Grand Shrine was moved (we believe that the shrine dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami was relocated). As I got closer by car, I felt the air change. Partly due to the rain, the atmosphere was strange rather than refreshing. After praying, I went down to the stream across the road and found Amanoiwato Shrine. It was a small shrine, but it was built on a huge rock and I had to rely on chains to climb up, but I managed to climb by myself and finished praying. Amanoiwato Shrines are dotted all over the country, and while it's not clear where the actual setting is, being able to come into contact with the world of myth is a mysterious and enjoyable experience. In this way, I would like to occasionally introduce shrines that I have visited in the past.
